Championship
Weekend
By JOHN DUDEK
Times Columnist
The NFL's Championship
weekend might have been wild-
er than Wild Card Weekend.
In the first game, the Balti-
more Haven's defense kept the
New England Patriot's high
powered offense in check for
most of the afternoon. It was
the Haven's special teams that
let them down.
Pro Bowl place kicker Billy
Cundiff shanked a possible
game-tying field goal attempt
with about ten seconds left,
ending Baltimore's season with
a 23-20 loss. Now, the Patri-
ots are headed to the seventh
Super Bowl in franchise his-
tory, which is just one appear-
ance shy of the Dallas Cow-
boys and Pittsburgh Steelers.
In the evening tilt, the New York
Giants invaded Candlestick
Park to take on the San Fran-
cisco 49ers. This was supposed
to be a low scoring, defensive
struggle kind of a game. For the
most part, it didn't disappoint.
San Francisco was a putrid
1 of 13 on third down conver-
sions, and couldn't ever really
get their offense on track. The
Giants weren't much better,
kicking just as many field goals
as scoring touchdowns. The
key to this game, as usual, was
The Giants did not turn the
ball over once, and the 49ers
gave the football to New York
twice. The second one proved
to be the costliest play of their
season. Back-up punt returner
Kyle Williams was stripped of
the ball, a mad scrum ensued,
and the Giants had the victory
served to them on a silver plat-
ter.
A few plays later, the kicker
was the hero in this game. New
York's Lawrence Tynes nailed a
31 yarder to send the Giants to
the Super Bowl, 20-17, over the
49ers.

Milk streets.
The town of DeKalb, much
like the prospective community
of Marbury further up the river,
was not a success. Perhaps the
"Panic of 1837" (a severe nation-
al depression) was a factor in
Alexander Lea's lack of success
or perhaps there were simply
not sufficient economic benefits
at Lea's Landing to support a
new community like DeKalb.
The name DeKalb quickly faded
from local memory and the site
was simply referred to as Lea's
Landing in the following years.

manship, many improvements
have been made to the park in-
cluding increasing the number
of baseball/softball fields from
four to 12, building two pavilion
areas, adding additional play-
ground equipment and expand-
ing both football and baseball
concession areas.
With the purchase of addi-

able to add a large workshop
and events building. Future
plans call for the expansion of
the walking path to cover the
entire park and to add an ad-

In addition to all the time
