CITY OF PONCHATOULA
MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
A regular meeting was held Monday, December 12, 2011 at 6:00
p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall in Ponchatoula. Loui-
siana.
Council members present were Braville LeBlarm, Jeannemarie
Pierson. Melvin Toomer and Vergil Sandifer. Elouise Conley-Dotey
was absent.
Mayor Zabbia called the meeting to order. Mr. Toomer gave the
invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
There was no public input.
A Motion by Mr. LeBlanc. seconded by Mr. Toomer, to accept the
minutes of the November 14. 2011 meeting passed with all voting
in favor.
Mr. Toomer motioned to issue an alcohol Permit to City Light's
LLC located at 138 N. 6th St. for 2011 and 2012 calendar years.
Motion was seconded by Mr. LeBlanc. All voted in favor.
Mayor Zabbia called for Council Members Rights of Personal
Privilege.
Vergil Sandifer thanked everyone for attending the meeting,
thanked city employees for their hard work, stated that he saw the
layout for the new sidewalk project around Tucker and PJHS, it
will include 5 ft sidewalks which can be used as a walking path for
people wishing to exercise, he congratulated and thanked Mayor
Zabbia and the employees at City Hall who applied for the grant
to fund the sidewalk project, and wished everyone a Merry Christ-
mas.
Melvin Toomer congratulated the council members who quali-
fied without opposition, thanked Mr. Robert Wells who donated his
time to lay bricks at the new park on SE RR Ave.. he stated that
a plaque would be installed recognizing Mr. Wells' contribution to
the park, and thanked everyone for attending the meeting.
Braville Leblanc thanked city employees for their work espe-
cially the crews who decorated the city for the holiday season,
encouraged everyone to spend locally, reminded everyone to use
space heaters carefully and keep flammables away, encouraged
everyone to have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
reminded everyone to continue to help keep ditches clear of leaves
and debris, keep service members in your prayers during the holi-
day season. , drive safely during the holidays, and wished every-
one a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Jeannemarie Pierson thanked everyone for attending the meet-
ing, congratulated council members who will be serving the next
term, and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year.
Mayor Zabbia congratulated council members who will be serv-
ing the next term including Debra Hils who has been active in
city business and in the community on several topics and stated
he looks forward to working with her, wished everyone a safe and
Happy Holiday Season and keep in mind the reason we celebrate
the holiday.
Mr. LeBlanc motioned to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed
with all voting in favor. Time 6:08pm.
