Also the improved 10 inch water line will play an important role in lowering insurance rates for homeowners. For the 746 people of District 11, this can be broken down into an average of $1,559.62 tax dollars per person that has been spent in the last four years. I have been a homeowner in District 11 for 32 years, and my wife, the former Bernice Walker, is a lifetime native of Ponchatoula. I initiated the construction of a sidewalk from Weinberger Road to " Tucker Elementary School for the safety of children walking to school. in the past year and a half, through the Community Development Pro- gram, seventeen houses in district four have been renovated or repaired to bring them up to meet the minimum building standards. This work cost approximately $104,000 or an average of $6,933 per house. In addition, the program has cleared seven vacant lots and four con- demned houses that had been burned out by fire and were con- sidered a health and safety hazard. This clearance costed the city approximately an additional $5,000. In 1984, the program calls for spend- ing another $40,000 - $50,000 in housing rehabilitation and code enforcement in district four. An overlay of streets have begun in district 4 as well as in other districts of the city. So you can see that more has been done in district four in the past four years than it has in the past 33 years that I have been a citizen of Pon- chatoula.
