Extensive use of ev-
ergreens, makes this
business attractive even
though the winter has
taken a toll on plantings.
There are holly bush-
es. trailing and upright
spruce, pine. oaks. mag-
nolias and azaleas along
the lighted fencing, all of.
which add to an interest-
ing planting scheme.

Creative Minds Writers
Group prizes horse sense
A familiar adage often quoted is "Good things
come in small packages" - but sometimes good
things come in giant packages that weigh over half
a ton.
Bonny Barry of Fol-
som found her trea-
sure on a horse rescue
site. With only a grainy
photo for reference, she
took a chance adopting
a half-starved, unwant-
ed Clydesdale yearling
- unwanted because he
didn't look like the typi-
cal Clydesdale.
Little did she know
that Clyde would blos-
som and become a horse
that attends charity
functions and fundrais-
ers, does skits, can box
like Rocky, yet is a
gentle giant to sick chil-
dren.
Bonny's friend Debo-
rah Young has been in
the horse world since
she was 12-years-old in
her native Missouri. She
first met Bonny Barry
in the late 1970's at a
public stable in Metair-
ie where she was board-
ing her Arabian gelding.
The two have remained
friends and it was only
natural that Young tells
Clyde's story.
After Young's retire-
ment as school librar-
ian, she lumped into
the literary world by
joining Creative Minds
Writers Group of Pon-
chatoula, crediting this
group for helping her
find resources that en-
abled her to complete
the story of Clyde in her
new book, "Clyde, The-
Neve r- Give -Up- Horse."
"Creative Minds writ-
ers are unique because
they are such a diverse
group of writers and are
always ready to take a
new writer under their
wing," she said before
adding that she is cur-
rently working on a
young adult novel that
involves best friends, a
special summer, and a
stolen horse.
Carousel Farms in
Folsom is the home
base for team Bonny
and Clyde who contin-
ue to do charity work
throughout Louisiana.
Bonny's involvement
with EGALA (Equine
Assisted Growth and
Learning Association)
pushed her to create
"Equine Reflections."
This charity is a non-
profit that partners with
other equine special-
ists who have developed
programs for children in
need. Bonny also works
with horse owners and
gives private lessons.
She can be reached at
985-373-7788.
Deborah Young and
her husband Bill live
in Folsom where she
breeds Dartmoor po-
nies. For speaking and
book signings she can
be reached at 985-796-
9359.
