Litter pickup on Manchac
Greenway this Saturday
Special to The Times
The litter pick-up on the Manchac Greenway planned
Saturday, is a cooperative endeavor with the Tangipa-
hoa Parish, government administration and Parish Coun-
cil, lending equipment, manpower and administrative as-
sistance, the Save Manchac Coalition, also assisting with
administration, the Manchac Boating Association, which
came up with this ongoing program in the first place, the
Friends of the Manchac Greenway, The Lake Ponchatrain
Basin Foundation, Entergy and others.
Equipment and sup-
plies have been rounded
up, mile-long zones on the
Greenway have been deter-
mined and "hot spots" iden-
tiffed so labor can be uti-
lized efficiently. The North
Pass Boat launch will be
the headquarters for the
morning event.
A unique aspect of this
effort managed by the
Manchac Boating Associa-
tion with the assistance of
the parish will be a trash
pick-up from banks and
waterways adjacent to the
Greenway and from area
camps.
This ongoing program
asks camp owners to place
unwanted appliances and
other refuse on their docks
for collection.

generation could be expected to advise.
I think of that great Irishman Stan Cowen every
time anybody turns on American Pickers on the His-
tory Channel, because the super successful owner of
the Ponchatoula Auction Company would have ex-
celled on that show. There was nothing Stan did not
know about antiques.
His buddy Marion Fannaly would do for cars and
trucks what Stanley Cowen could have done with
every era of antique furniture and lighting. Marion
was to drag strips what Stanley was to antique auc-
tions. They were both accomplished entrepreneurs
in their fields, and both hung out.with the cr me of
the crop.
Country idols and concert masters were every-
where in the Cowen manse, while the scion of Bird-
seye Frozen Foods gravitated to the Fannaly Man-
sion, helping to revolutionize the aftermarket of the
Ponchatoula strawberry crop.
Pay attention when Historian Jim Perrin writes
his histories for this newspaper. It is our heritage
he is giving to us as a present we should treasure
always.
