The New Orleans Baby Cakes will make a num-
ber of improvements to the team's stadium, the
Shrine on Airline, prior to the start of the Triple-A
baseball season on April 5.
Following the lead of
Major League Baseball,
the Baby Cakes will ex-
tend the netting that
protects fans seated be-
hind home plate. The
protective netting now
reaches to the far end
of each dugout. This
way fans seated closest
to the field in most sec-
tions of the stadium will
be protected from being
hit by line drives and
broken bats.
Large cooling fans will
be added to cool the con-
course. There will also
be an upgrade of the air-
conditioning in the club
areas.
Stairwells and eleva-
tors will be improved
to correct issues with
drainage during rain-
storms. A mesh material
has replaced the sheet
: metal walls of the stair-
[] wells to increase air-
flow.
Additionally, A new
deck has been added to
the Party Shack in the
right field corner.
On the baseball dia-
mond, the infield has
been resodded.
their season on Thurs-
day, April 5 against
the Nashville Sounds.
First pitch is at 7 p.m.
Opening Night will in-
clude a celebration of
the franchise's 25 years
in New Orleans. The
first 1,000 fans through
the gates will receive
a replica Baby Cakes
jersey. After the game,
there will be a fireworks
show.

With a little over ten
games left to play, the
NBA playoff picture is
really starting to take
shape. In the Eastern
conference, the Toronto
Raptors look to wrap up
the number one overall
seed with a solid finish to
the regular season.
The Boston Celtics are
locked into the second
seed, with the Cleveland
Cavaliers pretty much
all-but-guaranteed the
third spot. Even though
the Cavaliers are in the
third spot, Cleveland is
my slam dunk favorite
to represent the Eastern
conference in the NBA
Finals.
The Cavaliers started
the season off rocky, after
a failed experiment with
point guard Isaiah Thom-
as, who they promptly
traded to the Los Ange-
les Lakers. After replac-
ing Thomas with former
San Antonio Spurs guard
George Hill, the Cava-
liers have bounced back
as a team, and mega star
LeBron James is hitting
his stride at the perfect
time,
Over in the Western
conference, the Houston
Rockets have officially
taken over as the top
team.
The Golden State War-
riors are still the prohibi-
tive favorite, but a trio of
their best players have
been in and out of the
lineup with injuries. If
they get everybody back
from the injury list in
time for the second round
of the playoffs, they have
a shot to go deep in the
postseason.
One of the surprise
teams of the season, are
the Portland Trailblaz-
ers. They are almost a
lock for the third seed in
the playoffs.
After that, the fourth
through eight spots are
currently separated by
just a single game. These
next two weeks will go a
long way in determining
who plays who in the first
