THE PONCHATOULA TIMES, APRIL 29, 2010, PAGE A-2 Who Dat Comin' ? By DAVE BERWICK Times Sports Columnist Who dat comin" to beat them Saints? Comin" from all over the land, From the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, From New York to Florida? How many comin" to beat our Saints? Twenty comin" maybe more. How they be comin'? They be comin' mad I tell you, mad as hell. Those are the words I wrote to an, as yet, unrecorded song. But make no mistake, they will be :coming mad and prepared. The :Saints did sneak up on every- :body last year; no one was pre- :pared for how good the Saints were. But everyone is prepared now. No one will take the New Orleans Saints for granted this year. Now, in a way that's a bad thing because not only will they be prepared they will be super prepared. They will be mad, mad as hell I tell you. How mad do you think Brett Favre is? How mad do you think the Minnesota Vi- kings are? They will be much madder than the last time, I tell you. The "Who Dats" will open the NFL season against the Minne- sota Vikings on Thursday night, Sept. 9, 2010, at the Louisiana Superdome. Do you think Brett Favre has recovered sufficiently from the beating the Saints gave him to play again? If his brain has recovered it can only have one thought and that thought would be, "How can I beat them 'Who Dats'?" Right this very second Favre's thinking not only about how to beat the Saints, but how to massacre them. Of course every Viking play- er is bent on revenge. But the Viking fans are also bent on revenge. What do you think they have been thinking about all winter as they sat in their snowed-in homes? How to get even with the "Who Dat Na- tion," that's what! How about our division foes: i PARKER LAYR SSON : Auto Accident Injury : 18-Wheeler Injury : Criminal Defense (985) 370-9832 Downtown www.layrisson.com Ponchatoul: Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Caro- lina who did not like the "Who Dat Nation" before, but hated we are now. And of course we, the 'TVho Dat Nation," are the envy of the whole country. Don't you just love it when everyone is green with jealousy over you? Well I only say that to point out to you that they are not only going to be mad as hell, but jeal- ous as well. That's how it is when you're on top. The New Orleans Saints are the champions of the world and everyone is thinking about taking that championship away from us. What do you think the Pitts- burgh Steelers are thinking about right this very moment? There's only one thought in their polluted steel mill brains: "Kill the Saints!" The boys from steel town will be invading the "Who Dat Nation" on Halloween night, a Sunday. Do you think they are salivating from the mouth about the opportunity to crush the Saints on the eve of All Saints TO SUBSCRIBE Call 985/386-2877 24 Hours The Ponchatou& Times Established october 1, 1981 Print Edition Published Thursday of every week at 145 West Pine Street, Suite A Post Office Box 743--Ponchatoula, LA 70454-0743 SUBSCRIPTIONS $25 A Year In Tangipahoa Parish $30 A Year Outside Tangipahoa Parish ($5 Discount for Seniors) Gift subscriptions offered at same rate --24 Hour Telephone Line-- 985/386-2877 INTERNET EDITION http ://www.ponchatoula.com/ptimes/ E-MAIL editor@ponchatoula.com U.S. Periodicals Postal Permit No. 666730 Postmaster, address correspondence and changes of address orders to : P.O. Well the Pittsburgh Steel- ers are doing exactly that. What do you think Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are thinking right this second? They are thinking about re- venge because Sean Payton consumed Jerry's highly expen- sive bottle of vino! Do you not think that the Dal- las Cowboys are consumed day and night with the thought of beating the Saints, the world's champions? Well they are. The "Who Dat Nation" will be glued to the television come Turkey Day, Nov. 25, to view the Saints give the Dallas Cow- boys and Jerry Jones the bird, and I ain't talking turkey. On October 10, 2010, the "Who Dats" travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals. As I recall, the Cardinal fans will give the "Who Dats?" Not very favor- able, I'm afraid, plus they will be mad, mad as hell, I tell you. Don't worry, don't be afraid because we of the "Who Dat Na- tion" have a fellow named Sean Payton as head coach and an- other fellow named Drew Brees at quarterback and they ain't worried or scared. They are excited about a new season and a new quest for a Super Bowl ring, Now that we know who the foes will be, I have one thing to say: Bring it on! The Saints schedule : (X des- ignates home games) X Sept 9 Vikings (Thurs), Sept 20 San Francisco (Mon), X Sept 26 Fal- cons, X Oct 3 Panthers, Oct. 10 Cardinals, Oct. 17 Tampa Bay, Coach Johnson Johnson himself mounted a political campaign for insur- ance commissioner in 2003 and judging by the signage outside the restaurant where the event was held Saturday, the candi- date's support still holds strong. "Johnson For Governor," read the signs. During a buffet meal former players introduced themselves and their spouses, sometimes recalling a humorous, or gruel- ing, memory. One of the orga- nizers, Irwin Jenkins, particu- larly remembers the 100 laps he was given to run, spread over two days, but had to ad- mit, "Coach Johnson got us into shape to play ball." quar e many Pittsburgh Steelers, Nov. 7 Pan- thers, X Nov 21 Seahawks, Nov 25 Dallas (Thanksgiving), Dec 5 Cincinnati, X Dec 12 Rams, Dec 19 Ravens, Dec 27 Atlanta, X Jan 2 Tampa Bay. back into retirement during the playoffs, in addition to elimi- nating the Cardinals from the playoffs. Do you think they are just going to forget that? What kind of reception do you think FROM PAGE A-1 mer players who turned out to honor Johnson were: Kevin Braun, Virgil Allen, Bobby Vit- ter, Buddy Pugh, Lee Settoon, Truman Booth, Buddy Bodker, Sonny Bennett, and Brian Bar- ringer. John Dahmer and J. Ed- ward Layrisson were distracted by health issues from attending but were remembered in the stories being told.
