• Jail
"Peck" Edwards said he was repre-
senting the citizens of Tangipahoa
Parish in his talk of a class action
suit to block the jail.
After hearing his legal arguments
the commission retired behind
closed doors and re-emerged, voting
to take no action on granting Tangi-
pahoa Parish a line of credit on the
project, a rare move during a day of
granting approvals for similar
projects in other parishs.
Edwards' cousin Frank is opposing
the proposed parish jail as being too
lavish in his campaign against
Layrisson, who sided with "Peck"
Edwards opponent in the recent race
for district judge.
it is uncertain at this writing if
Tuesday's action killed the jail
project during this legislative
session. Sheriff Layrisson will be
asked to comment on the situation in
next week's edition.
