Allen attended the May 26
finale of American Idol at
the Nokia Theatre in fine
style, including roundtrip
air fare to Los Angeles,
luxury hotel accommoda-
tions, limo transportation,
and spending money, one of
just six winners from thou-

Enquirer. She told The
Ponchatoula Times that at
first, she didn't believe she
really had won, thinking
there had to be a catch. But
when she brought the news
to Cathy Allen, "and she was
more excited than I was.
She insisted I call back the
number and confirm thatI
won. I did do this and that is
when it finally sunk in that
I won." So off she went, ce-

Understanding Birds
By BRYAN T. McMAHON
What holds them up?
Just hollow bone
And feather
Or
What weighs down the wings?
That slight body
Is mostly stomach
Those eyes
What do they know?
Those wings
Know more secrets of Breeze
Than we can ever really
feel
Where is that wisdom?
Does it fly, does it soar?
Does it course through
Hollow bone?
One day
The earth will teach us
These secrets
One day
We will be the eagles
Of the earth
.............. Dirt .stana ........ . ......... . ..........................
Will be our breeze. "
