HARRIS Sports Editor Big Farm's All-Stars took on Hammond's best Saturday, June 29-30 and finished placing second overall. First off, Ponchatoula took on Hammond's World of Sports Saturday, June 29 and defeated them 17-5. That afternoon Ponchatoula matched up against Cefalu and suffered their first loss 4-2. Ponchatoula returned Sunday, June 30 and wiped out Hammond's All-Stars 5-2 but fell behind later that evening when Ponchatoula lost to Cefalu 14-11 in a tiebreaker. Overall, Ponchatoula's best place second in the foreign tourney Ponchatoula played an excellent initial game against World of Sports where they compiled 17 runs taken on 25 hits in which there were two doubles, four triples and a J.J. Childers homer in the fourth frame. Phil McCrory rapped out the two doubles while Jayme Berthelot, Russell Ott, J.J, Childers and Clay Daigle cracked off the triples. JJ Childers led superior scoring four runs taken on four hits in which he rapped out a triple and the game's only home run. In runs, J.J Childers led the team superior in both hits and runs with four of each which included a triple and the game's only home run. Phil McCrory followed the pace scoring three: Brad Lebourgeois, Jayme Berthelot and Clay Daigle pulled home two each while Bryan Wolfe. Russell Ott, Laramie Polk and Josh Stilley each pulled home one. The All-Stars were shining bright earlier but their shine tarnished when they suffered a disappointing 4-2 loss to Cefalu in the second round of the Hammond Tourney. Ponchatoula picked up the lead early on a Phil McCrory single and was tied for two frames. Into the third, Hammond upgraded their score by one which gave them the lead. But the high cards weren't dealt to Ponchatoula. Cefalu added their winning run at the top of the fourth frame but when Ponchatoula was up to bat the All-Stars were unable to clinch the lead. Phil McCrory was the team scorer who pulled home both runs on two singles. Others winding out the hits were Jayme Berthelot. Russell Ott and Laramie Polk with two as B.J. Schilling, J.J. Ponchatoula tied it on a Steven Henderson double in the second inning and took the lead starting ,with a Phil McCrory single. Jayme Berthelot picked up their fourth run and B.J Schilling applied the finishing touches and a run on a double. Overall, Ponchatoula pulled home those five runs on 16 hits in which there were two doubles and a triple. Clay Daigle led the team in hits with three, Brad LeBourgeois, Russell Ott, J.J. Childers and Steven Henderson followed with two while Phil McCrory. Jayme Berthelot, B.J. Schilling, Laramie Polk and Josh Stilley attributed one each. Ponchatoula was going into the fourth round of the Hammond Tourney Sunday evening and the All-Stars were to face Cefalu again. Both Cefalu and Ponchatoula held onto a 2-I record when Ponchatoula surprised the foreigners by taking a 14-11 win in a tiebreaker. The team was expecting a high scoring game and they played at their peak level. In an overall composite, Ponchatoula scored 14 runs on 26 hits in which there were two triples, a double and a sacrifice. Ponchatoula took an enormous four run lead in the first frame on runs taken in by Bryan Wolfe, Phil McCrory, Jayme Berthelot and Russell Ott; a six run lead in the second quarter by Bryan Wolfe, Brad LeBourgeois and Steven Henderson; a four run lead in the third frame by Clay Daigle: a one run lead in the fourth: behind by three in the fifth; behind by one in the sixth and led by three in the seventh. Bryan Wolfe, Brad LeBourgeois and Jayme Berthelot led with two runs each while Russell Oft, J.J. Childers, Clay Daigle and Steven Henderson added one each. Bryan, Phil, Jayme, B.J. AND Josh Stilley led in hits with three each; Brad, J.J., Clay, Laramie and Steven attributed two each as Russell Ott added one. Bryan Wolfe and Jayme Berthelot cracked off the team's triples while B.J. rapped out the team's only double. It was time for Ponchatoula's All- Stars to meet their maker;that last detrimental game that holds the title. Ponchatoula met Cefalu for the last time of the tournement and suffered a disappointing 18-6 loss to the Hammond native team Cefalu. Ponchatoula had fallen behind by two runs going into the third frame and were bombarded by Cefalu which scored five additional runs giving them a seven lead, The All Stars narrowed it four whan at bat but Cefalu home seven runs in the fourth giving them a 12 run lead and an victory,. Cefalu took home the first trophy while Ponchatoula placing second overall. The All-Stars didn't take home second place trophy but what they bring home was a sense of di would prevail with them longer dust cluttered trophy.(so you'd show off a trophy instead of you ?)
