Citizens National Bank
site of Messiah sing-in
An event never before experienced in
this area will occur on Sunday evening,
December 7, at 8 p.m. The event is a
"Messiah" Sing-In. All persons who
have ever sung or who even dreamed
of singing George Frederick Handel's
immortal "Messiah" will be invited to
come together and perform the greatest
oratorio of all time. The singers will be
their own audience..The entire pro-
duction will be under the direction of
Dr. Gordon L. Ohlsson, Professor of
Music at SLU.
It will take place in the lobby of the
Citizens National Bank on Railroad
Avenue in Hammond. This special
event will be enhanced by a professional
string quartet made up of key members
of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orche-
stra which has been contracted to
accompany the singing. At the
keyboard will be Mary Ohlsson, wife of
the director.
The performance will be supported
by members of North Shore Choral
Society, founded and directed by Dr.
Ohlsson, and the University Chorus,
also directed by Dr. Ohlsson. These
singers have previously performed
"Messiah" and as members in the
audience they will provide leadership in
the Sing-ln.
