Northshore Camellia Show
and Sale set for Dec. 20

The Northshore Camellia Society will host its seventh Show and
Sale on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. Scholastica Academy
Gym in Covington.
The judged show is open to
entries from any camellia grow-
er having only one bush or hun-
dreds. The Camellia is called
Queen of the Winter Flowers
since its blooming time, October
through March, occurs when
other flowering plants are dor-
mant.
The Show will open at 8 a.m.
for bloom entries until 10:30.
President Jim CamPbell says,
"the show is intended for the
'casual camellia grower.' En-
trants are encouraged to bring
in their bloom for exhibit and
judging, even if you don't know
the variety.
There is a "Novice" classifica-
tion for new camellia entrants.
To enter, cut your bloom with a
couple of inches on the stem and
several leaves and club mem-
bers will be available to help
with identification and setting
up the bloom for competition.
Plant Sales will begin at 11
a.m. with the show opening at
Noon until 4 p.m. There will be
about 100 camellia plants for
sale at reasonable prices. These
are grown locally and will do
well in our climate and soils.
They would be excellent holiday
gifts.
