Acadian Cypress using Port Manchac

press rail shipment project at Port Manchac are (left to

series of rail shipments of specialty plywood products that
originated from Oregon and trans-loaded at the Port Man-
ehae terminal. STPPC President Mark Griggs commented,
"The port plans to develop and expand the volume of rail
shipments for Acadian Cypress & Hardwoods and other
rail shippers by utilizing the terminal's strategic logistic
location adjacent to the main line of the Canadian National
Railroad (CN) that is outside of the congested Port of New

CITY OF PONCHATOULA
MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
A regular meeting of the Mayor and City Council was held Monday, November
8, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall in Ponchatoula, Louisi-
e
ana.
Council members present were Elou-
ise Conley-Dotey, Jeannemarie Pierson,
Melvin Toomer, and Vergil Sandifer.
Braville LeBlanc was absent.
Mayor Zabbia called the meeting to
order and gave the invocation which was
followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mrs. Pierson motioned to accept the
minutes of the October 12, 2010 meet-
ing as presented. All voted in favor of
the motion.
There was no public input.
Agenda item #4, the FY 2010 audit
presentation, would be rescheduled for
the December meeting. (Due to an error
found in the report.)
Mr. Toomer nominated Carla Heis-
ser to fill a vacancy on the Planning
and Zoning Commission for a term of 5
years (1118/2010-9/3012015). Mrs. Pier-
son motioned to accept the nomination
and appoint Mrs. Heisser. All voted in
favor of the motion.
Mayor Zabbia and the City Council
discussed the COPS Grant acceptance
award which would allow funding for a
new police officer for a period of three
years. After that period the city would
have to continue to fund the position for
12 months. Council members had ques-
tions regarding terms and conditions of
the grant, and what expenses were not
covered by the grant that the city would
be responsible for. Chief Layrisson stat-
ed the city had until December 30, 2010
to accept the award. Council members
took no action on this item, opting to
wait until the next meeting when their
questions could be answered.
Mrs. Pierson motioned to adopt two
resolutions, one for declaration of sur-
plus property including three vehicles;
and a second declaring an 80 x 80 parcel
of property located on Canal Street as
surplus. All voted in favor of the mo-
tion.
Mayor Zabbia called for rights of
personal privilege.
Vergil Sandifer thanked James
Triche and all city workers and the Po-
lice department, thanked and congratu-
lated the Jaycees for Trick or Treating
at the park, and wished everyone a
Happy Thanksgiving.
Melvin Toomer thanked everyone for
attending the meeting, thanked Mrs.
Heisser for accepting the appointment
to the Zoning Commission.
Elouise Conley-Dotey thanked ev-
eryone for attending the meeting and
wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiv-
ing.
Jeannemarie Pierson wished every-
one a Happy Thanksgiving, thanked
everyone for attending the meeting, en-
couraged everyone to attend the Christ-
mas lighting and parade, and asked ev-
eryone to support local Vendors.
Mayor Zabbia reminded everyone
of Veterans Day and asked everyone to
thank veterans for their service, wished

6pm and the parade on Saturday the
llth at 4pm, and stated that hurricane
season only had a few more weeks.
Meeting adjourned at 6:28 p.m. upon
a motion by Mrs. Conley-Dotey.
