He served as representative to STPTA and was designated within the school as assistant principal. He left teaching for a short time to work at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility on the Space Program, which put the first man on the moon; but the classroom called and he returned to teaching. In 1967, he accepted a position on the faculty at Delgado Community College in New Orleans where he retired in 1979 as Associate Dean of the Trades Division. With summers free, Jewel was employed at Yellowstone Na- tional Park as a Forest Ranger, Protective Division at the Can- yon area. Jewel Ray married Jimmie Ann Berger while they were at college in 1955. They were married for 55 years and had 'two sons, Gregory James and JEWEL RAY THOMPSON Jewel Thompson was Past Master of Bayou Lacombe Lodge #459, F&AM and a mem- ber for over 54 years, as well as the Knights Templar of the York Rite. He is also a member of the Madisonville Presbyteri- an Church. His hobbies includ- :: ed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, watching football and he was noted for his carvings of wildfowl decoys. Surviving are her three daughters, Betty Fairburn Williams, Barbara Fairburn, and Annette Fairburn Clark; sixteen grand- children; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Agnes Thompson and Henry Meyn; husband, Calvin Leo Fairburn; two sons, Leon- ard Calvin Fairburn and Alton Henry Fairburn. Friends were received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula on Wednesday, December 22, 2010until the funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel.
