for an NTS fiber optics network,
drilled through a 10" pipeline
causing the water to be shut off
in at least one part of the city,
affecting much of the city.
When such a situation oc-
curs, Mayor Zabbia informed
The Times, water moves more
rapidly throughout the rest of
the city, causing any sediment
that had accumulated in the
main to be disturbed. Although
City Hall maintains the discol-
ored water is nonhazardous,
the sediment caused drinking
water to become cloudy and/or
brown in color.
Most areas of the city were
affected, some areas more than
others, according to a news re-
lease from City Hall.
Late last Thursday after-
noon, Mayor Bob Zabbia called
+ a meeting with representa-
tives of Grady Crawford to in-
stitute measures to hopefully
prevent this from happening
again. Both the contractor and

Gas prices
Average retail gasoline pric-
es in Louisiana have risen 12.5
cents per gallon in the past
week, averaging $3.33/g yester-
day, according to GasBuddy's
daily survey of 2,436 gas outlets
in Louisiana.
This compares with the
national average that has in-
creased 14.4 cents per gallon in
the last week to $3.48/g, accord-
ing to gasoline price website
GasBuddy.com.
Including the change in gas
prices in Louisiana during the
past week, prices yesterday
were 5.4 cents per gallon lower
than the same day one year ago
and are 16.9 cents per gallon
higher than a month ago.
The national average has
increased 21.1 cents per gal-
lon during the last month and
stands 4.4 cents per gallon
higher than this day one year
ago.
"The national average has
ticked higher in the last week,
as rising oil prices have put
upward pressure on gasoline
prices," said GasBuddy.com Se-
nior Petroleum Analyst Patrick
DeHaan.
"Unfortunately for angry mo-
torists, there doesn't seem to be
much relief in sight, at least for
the time being, as retail prices
conttnue to climb in virtually
all areas of the country," De-
Haan said.
GasBuddy operates Loui-
sianaGasPrices.com and over
250 similar websites that track
gasoline prices at over 140,000
gasoline stations in the United
States and Canada. In addition,
GasBuddy offers a free smart-
phone app which has been
downloaded over 25 million
times to help motorists find the

the city's Public Works Depart-
ment will keep a very close eye
to minimize future incidents,
Mayor Zabbia told The Pon-
chatoula Times.
The contractor indicates that
approximately 90% of its job is
complete.
In related news, the city is
working with other parish agen-
cies to develop a "First Alert"
system. When placed into op-
eration, if it works as intended
this approach will have the
ability to alert citizens of such
similar situations immediately.
It is meant to be the city's
information highway to its resi-
dents, and officials hope to have
it in place by midyear, accord-
ing to City Hall sources.
