SOCIETY THE PONCHATOULA TIMES, FEBRUARY 28, 1985 Local hospice to hold Great Gatsby Bash The Richard N. Murphy Memorial Hospice Foundation will hold a unique fundraiser/auction on April 19 at Zemurray Gardens in Loranger. The theme of this event is the "Great Gatsby Bash." Some of the unusual items and services that will be auctioned include artwork such as posters, prints and framing; and services such as spring cleaning, gourmet dinner for eight, a day of landscaping, dental check up, complete physical and a day of beauty Other auction items will include wine tasting for ten, five hours of flying lessons, use of a balcony on St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans for Mardi Gras 1986, tubing trip, canoe trip on the Tangipahoa River. float trip for 20 on the Tangipahoa River, a weekend at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama and much more. Restaurant dinners. hotel packages and air travel are als being planned. Food and libations will also be served. All proceeds from the Great Gasby Bash will benefit the Richard N. Murphy Memorial Hospice Foundation which provides care for terminally ill persons and their families. Hospice is a support system that helps patients and thief farnilies participate in the process of dying (at home) with high priority given to the quality of life in all of its dimensions: physical, emotional, social and spiritual. As an alternative to hospitalization of terminally ill persons, Hospice provides services and volunteer activities directed toward : • supporting the patient and family in their decision to remain at home • controlling pain and managing unpleasant symptoms " providing emotional, social and spiritual support to patients and family. The Foundation supports those who provide Hospice care such as hospitals, home health agencies, trained profess- ionals and w)iunteers in the following ways: " Education of the community, volun- teer training, continuing education and maintaining a library of educational material • Professional relations to inform physicians, hosptaladministrators, nurses, ministers and other profess- iona]s of Hospice activities "Public relations using the media. LeBlanc of Seattle, Wash- ington, formerly of Ponchatoula. The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke J. LeBlane. He is presently serving in the U.S. Navy. The Tucker Elementary School is of RAX, Roast Beef. holding its Spring Festival on Friday, March 8, from I p.m. until 5 p.m. There will be many various interests, such as handmade crafts and toys, raffles, games of chance, the spacewalk and of course, homemade food items. Our school mascot (Snuffy the Alligator} will be on hand to take instant pictures with the children, compliments 8 Beginning at 4 p.m., a delicious barbecue chicken dinner will be served. This is being prepared by the well known Jackie Kupper, and consists of I/2 chicken, cole slaw and baked beans. Tickets for the dinner may be purchased prior to the Festival date for $4.00 each. Seniors hold monthly meet The Ponchatoula Senior Citizens Club held its regular monthly meeting on February 12 at the Community Center. The president, Ms. Vivian Metherne called on HP. Hoover to open the meeting with prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing the birthday song for all members having birthdays in February. Reports of the committees were read and approved. Our guest speaker was Chief Criminal Deputy Willie Johnson from the Sher- iffs Office. He spoke of the importance of all citizens tO get involved in reporting license numbers, etc. of criminals seen doing wrong things in the neighborhoods or shopping cen- ters, etc. The door prize was awarded to Ms, Alice Landry. There were 45 members registered and blood pressures taken by Ms. Perrin and Ms. Benoit. Parents are to have with them their child's birth certificate, baptismal certificate, and an updated record of their immunizations. The children are to come with their parents, since the school nurses, will be on hand. The guidelines for admission require that thev be a registered member of our parish, use the chruch envelopes, and give a minimum of 1O hours of volunteer work for the school. No registration fee will be accepted at this time, since it will require some time to check on whether the guidelines are being met. All will be informed as to their status no later than two weeks following. Vintage car club installs new officers Florida Parishes Vintage Car Club's annual banquet and Installation ceremonies were held Saturday, February 23, at Lil' Johnny's Restau- rant in Hammond. During the past year, the club held three mall shows in Hammond and Houma. Members meet three times a month for board meetings, general dis- cussion and family outings.
