Local hospice to hold
Great Gatsby Bash
The Richard N. Murphy Memorial
Hospice Foundation will hold a unique
fundraiser/auction on April 19 at
Zemurray Gardens in Loranger. The
theme of this event is the "Great Gatsby
Bash."
Some of the unusual items and
services that will be auctioned include
artwork such as posters, prints and
framing; and services such as spring
cleaning, gourmet dinner for eight, a
day of landscaping, dental check up,
complete physical and a day of beauty
Other auction items will include wine
tasting for ten, five hours of flying
lessons, use of a balcony on St. Charles
Ave. in New Orleans for Mardi Gras
1986, tubing trip, canoe trip on the
Tangipahoa River. float trip for 20 on
the Tangipahoa River, a weekend at the
Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama
and much more. Restaurant dinners.
hotel packages and air travel are als
being planned.
Food and libations will also be served.
All proceeds from the Great Gasby
Bash will benefit the Richard N.
Murphy Memorial Hospice Foundation
which provides care for terminally ill
persons and their families.
Hospice is a support system that helps
patients and thief farnilies participate in
the process of dying (at home) with
high priority given to the quality of life
in all of its dimensions: physical,
emotional, social and spiritual.
As an alternative to hospitalization of
terminally ill persons, Hospice provides
services and volunteer activities
directed toward :
• supporting the patient and family in
their decision to remain at home
• controlling pain and managing
unpleasant symptoms
" providing emotional, social and
spiritual support to patients and family.
The Foundation supports those who
provide Hospice care such as hospitals,
home health agencies, trained profess-
ionals and w)iunteers in the following
ways:
" Education of the community, volun-
teer training, continuing education and
maintaining a library of educational
material
• Professional relations to inform
physicians, hosptaladministrators,
nurses, ministers and other profess-
iona]s of Hospice activities
"Public relations using the media.
Speaker's Bureau, newsletters and
other activities
" Membership for interested persons
" Fundraising to support the above
activities and to raise money to aid
farnilies who need financial assistance•

terminally ill and their families,

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fletcher
announce the forthcoming marriage of
their daughter Tammy Wallen to
Steven C. LeBlanc of Seattle, Wash-
ington, formerly of Ponchatoula.
The prospective groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Luke J. LeBlane. He is
presently serving in the U.S. Navy.
Nuptials will be held in the bridal
chapel in Forest Grove, Oregon on
March 16, 1985

specialists will evaluate your hearing in
just a few minutes t 9 determine whether

Beltone Hearing Aid Service will be
conducting these free tests.

have your problem checked.
Tucker Spring Festival Mar.
The Tucker Elementary School is of RAX, Roast Beef.
holding its Spring Festival on Friday,
March 8, from I p.m. until 5 p.m.
There will be many various interests,
such as handmade crafts and toys,
raffles, games of chance, the spacewalk
and of course, homemade food items.
Our school mascot (Snuffy the
Alligator} will be on hand to take instant
pictures with the children, compliments

Beginning at 4 p.m., a delicious
barbecue chicken dinner will be served.
This is being prepared by the well
known Jackie Kupper, and consists of
I/2 chicken, cole slaw and baked
beans. Tickets for the dinner may be
purchased prior to the Festival date for
$4.00 each. Please call 294-3897 for
information regarding ticket purchases.
Seniors hold monthly meet
The Ponchatoula Senior Citizens Club
held its regular monthly meeting on
February 12 at the Community Center.
The president, Ms. Vivian Metherne
called on HP. Hoover to open the
meeting with prayer, followed by the
Pledge of Allegiance and singing the
birthday song for all members having
birthdays in February.
Reports of the committees were read
and approved.
Our guest speaker was Chief Criminal
Deputy Willie Johnson from the Sher-
iffs Office. He spoke of the importance
of all citizens tO get involved in
reporting license numbers, etc. of
criminals seen doing wrong things in
the neighborhoods or shopping cen-
ters, etc.
The door prize was awarded to Ms,
Alice Landry.
There were 45 members registered
and blood pressures taken by Ms.
Perrin and Ms. Benoit.
Cake and coffee was then served by
the ladies of the American Legion
Auxiliary Unit 47, Ms. Tate, Degruy
and Pen-ln serving.

It's pre-school
roundup time
Monday, March 4, from 8 a.m.
till 12 noon, registration for all
Kindergarten children, as well as
those in other grades entering St.
Joseph for the first time, will be
held in the Meeting Room of the
Gym.
Parents are to have with them
their child's birth certificate,
baptismal certificate, and an
updated record of their
immunizations. The children are
to come with their parents, since
the school nurses, will be on hand.
The guidelines for admission
require that thev be a registered
member of our parish, use the
chruch envelopes, and give a
minimum of 1O hours of volunteer
work for the school. No
registration fee will be accepted at
this time, since it will require some
time to check on whether the
guidelines are being met. All will
be informed as to their status no
later than two weeks following.
Vintage car club
installs new officers
Florida Parishes Vintage Car Club's
annual banquet and Installation
ceremonies were held Saturday,
February 23, at Lil' Johnny's Restau-
rant in Hammond.

During the past year, the club held
three mall shows in Hammond and
Houma. Members meet three times a
month for board meetings, general dis-
cussion and family outings. They are
ffiliated with the Mid-America Old
'ime Automobile Association
(MOTAA), a national antique and
special interest car group.

Tips on bird identification and ways to
attract them to the home garden were
enumerated by Mrs. Vernise Oft, a
member of both the Gardenettes and
the Louisiana Ornithological Society.
Hostesses for the meeting were
Mmes. Charles Austin. Oft and Melvir-
Travis. The Opening prayers were
dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Eunice
Faller for her many years of service to
the club.
A discussion of favorite birds was
followed by the treasurer's report. A
painting of a Scarlet Tanager, done by
Mrs. Tom Boyet served as door prize.
"Scarborough Fair" set the theme for
exhibits by Mmes. Fred Cutter and
Marion Fannaly. Mrs. Matt Wagner
presented each with a red ribbon.
