Hammond Just off 1-55 March 14 Deputy Don Alexander learned a new-born baby boy was named after him, which is not too strange until you realize he is single and the baby was born in Berton, Arkansas. It seems that on August 23. 1984 a three-month pregnant woman was traveling through Tangipahoa Parish toward Arkansas. She was traveling alone and her husband was anxiously awaiting her return. But, as she traveled north on 1-55 her car broke down and she was than 200 miles from home and did not know a soul around this area Deputy Alexander brought the expectant mother to the courthouse in Amite and made her comfortable while he contacted her family in Arkansas who drove to Amite to get her, since the car was in need of major repair. Apparently the kindness impressed Mrs. Robert Dorsey because when she returned to Arkansas she told her husband about the deputy taking time to assure her comfort and safety. In early March a boy was born to the Dorseys and they named him Alexander in honor of the single deputy Open Tues-Sat 10-5 Alexander . ATTENTION. The program will take place from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Teacher Education Center and other selected sites on campus.
