Citizens sluggers triumph

"We dogged them. There were a lot
of things we did but I did my part in
striking out Jack, Chris and Brad in the
first two innings. Don't listen to my
brother, I only walked two," quipped
Citizens pitcher Jayme Berthelot fol-
lowing Saturday's 4-0 victory over
Hanna.
Jayme BertheJot, Bryan Wolfe,
Charles Landry and Jerrid Landry did
all the scoring for Citizens in the first
frame and notched a four run advan-
tage.
B.J. Schilling's single and walks made
by both Kevin Shockley and Stephanie
Wald pulled in the runs. But their scot-
ing spree ended with the consecutive
strike outs of Justin Wells, Curtis
Kennedy and Travis Hancock.
Scoring superior were Jayme Berthe-
lot who pitched in a run taken on a
stolen base, a walk and a strike out;
Bryan Wolfe's run taken on a single;
Charles Landry's run taken on a hit and
a strike out and Jerrid Ryan who
scooted home on a walk and a strike
out.
From the plate, Kevin Shockley and
Stephanie Wald were walked once and
Justin Wells, Curtis Kennedy, Travis
Hancock, Kelly Perrin and Brandon
Robertson were all credited with one
strike out each.
Jayme Berthelot pitched seven strike
outs, three walks and a wild pitch while
B.J. Schilling finished as the winning
pitcher with two strike outs. a walk and
a wild pitch.
Meanwhile, Hanna's Mike Smith and
Brad Womer were the only players to
run on a base hit and Wade Peltier,
Jack Gabriel, Aaron Navarre and
Sonny Harmon were the only batters
walked by Citizens.
From the mound, Chris Bowman
pitched four walks and allowed four
runs before Chris Thibodeaux took
over [ate in the first frame. Thibodeaux
pitched seven strike outs in a two
inning span.
Hanna compiled only two hits taken
on four walked batters and nine strike
outs.

"I knew we could do it. They had 13
baiters come to the plate and 1 struck
out 1 1 of them, Chad caught a fly and 1
walked one," Stephen Perrin proudly
stated when the K.C. team flooded
onto the Jaycee diamond following a
clean 12-O shutout over Land of Sports.
Coach Lenny Miller and his team's
extensive practice during the week paid
for the first time. The team's statistical
composite was comparable to that of a
Ponchatoula Greenie game.
KFC totaled 12 runs taken on nine
hits in which there were two doubles
and a triple, seven stolen bases, a
sacrifice, 13 walked batters and 10
Keith Woods turned out a run on two
walks and a strikeout: Bobby Lee pro-
fessionally scored two runs taken on
two hits and a walk: Brannon Pittman
broke loose for two runs on a stolen
base and two walks: Corey Roguin
edged in a hit. a stolen base and two
walks: Gene Ferrant picked up a walk
and two strikeouts: Robert Foster also
listed a walk and a strikeout and Shane
Blodgett hustled up two walks and a
strikeout.
Stephen Perrin struck out 11 batters,
walked only one batter and allowed a
mere hit for KFC in the entire game.
Statistics wise, it was a short story for
t'he Land of Sports team. The team's
only action was played in the initial
frame when Devin Barringer rapped
Kieth Averette was caught swinging at
a very low pitch for Athletic Shop
during their season opening loss to the
K.C.'s.

CP upsets Jaycees

"We'll win by I00 runs. We're gonna
take over what the K.C.'s used to have
and we'll prove it to the Jayceestoday,"
remarked CP player Gene Malone
shortly before the Jaycee surprise upset
to Central Progressive Saturday in a
3-2 game.
CP didn't win by 100 runs but the fans
got their money's worth in a refexive
game that even the calmest parent on
the edge of his seat.
But their were no sudden outbursts in
the sixth game of opening day,
The Jaycees took the lead right off the
bat in the first inning and kept it
through three innings. CP shortstop
Larry Terry broke the tie with his
double who later stole two bases on fly
out raps.
"'They were playing hard but it was a
battle between the pitchers, Ronnie
Corbin and Bobby Wolfe," commented
Ms. Baseball Margie Lessard who has
been the official scorekeeper for 26
years.
Be that as it may, CP pitcher Ronnie
-Corbin won over Wolfe by striking out
12 batters, walking two and allowing
only four hits throughout the game.
Suiki Courouleau, Larry Terry and
Jeremy Schmidt were the scorers for
CP with one run taken on one hit each.
Suiki, Malone and Brett Tilyou were
the only players to walk on the CP
team and Ronnie Corbin, Larry Terry,
Derrick Allen. Stanley Brown, Chris
Wilson. Tommy Lucas and Damon
Devaune were all credited with strike
outs.
For the Jaycees, Jason Wagner
turned out a run from a walk, a stolen
base and a strike out: Bobby Wolfe
keyed in a run on a hit and a stolen
base.
At the plate. Brad Berner took a base
hit and a strike out: Darryl Falcon
added another hit and a strike out and
David Probst. Mike Ribera, Chad
Falcon. Ronnie Leblanc and
Johnathan Pugh all struck out at the
plate.
Bobby Wolfe enclosed on Corbin's
turf striking out I0 CP batters, walked
three and allowed four hits.

were the only scoring fireworks dis-
played by the Citizens team in the
entire game.
Jerrid Ryan. B.J. Schilling. Kevin
Shockley, Stephanie Wald. Justin
Wells, Curtis Kennedy and Kelly Perrin
were all credited with strike outs and
Kevin. Stephanie and Justin were the
only players walked.
Big B,J. Schilling pitched three strike
outs, four walks and allowed three hits.
He was replaced in the third frame bY
Jared Ryan. Ryan pitched two strike
outs, walked five batters and allowed
one hit.
Citizens compiled two runs taken on
two hits, a triple, five walked batterS
and eight strike outs.
