JOHN TARANTO
John Taranto, 72, native of Chalmette and current resident of
Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away, Friday, May 24, 2013, at his
beloved home.
He was born on Saturday, May 10, 1941, in New Orleans, La.,
son of the late Santo R. Taranto and the late Verna Champagne
Taranto.
John was a United States Navy Veteran and former Lieuten-
ant for the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff Department. He was also
a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Slidell An-
tique Car Club, the Grand Lodge of Louisiana F and AM, past
president of the Andrew Jackson Lodge and member of the Horse-
less Carriage Club.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Taranto; son, Jerl G. Kershen-
: tine; daughter, Mindy A. Kershenstine and husband Barry Hays;
grandchildren, Madison Kershenstine, Cade Kershenstine, Nicho-
las Hays and Julian Hays.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Rachel, Donnie,
Melissa, Lynn and Deacon Butch and Egan Healthcare Services.
APRIL SMITH JONES
April Smith Jones, 29, Ponchatoula, went to her heavenly home
on Friday, May 24, 2013 at North Oaks Medical Center. She was a
loving mother, daughter, sister and friend to all who knew her and
she will be missed dearly.
April leaves behind her daughters, Serenity Mitchell, Kiya
Jones, and Shannon Jones; sons, Bradley Ladner, Nickolas Lad-
ner, Robert Jones III and John Michael Mitchell; parents, Bar-
bara Lambert and husband Allan; sisters, Parish Urbina, Tammy
Latimer, Reba Lambert and Cynthia Moses; brothers, Johnny
Smith, Freddie Smith Jr., Shane Smith, Rocky Smith, Christian
Smith, Frank Lambert, Jonathan Lambert, and she is also sur-
vived by her grandmother, Helen Ducayaq.
Preceding April in death were her father, Freddie Donald Smith
and her grandparents, Nellie and Robert Smith.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral
Home.
WILLIE L. GRAY JR.
Willie L. Gray Jr., 83, resident of Ponchatoula, LA, died May
16, 2013. Funeral services were Wednesday May 22, 2013, at N.A.
James Funeral Home, Inc. Interment followed in Ponchatoula
Cemetery.
MARVIN P. BERTEAU
Marvin P. Berteau, 87, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away
Monday, May 20, 2013, at North Oaks Medical Center.
He was born on September 24, 1925, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana,
son of the late Pierre and Leola Smith Berteau.
Marvin Berteau was a native and lifelong resident of Pon-
chatoula. He retired from Himel Auto Parts in 1990 having served
as office manager for 42 years.
He was involved in a number of civic, political and volunteer
organizations. He was also bilingual and proud of his Cajun heri-
tage.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Elizabeth "Patsy" Walz
Berteau; four sons, David (Jane), Paul (Linda), Alan and Charles
(Karen); daughter Susan (Rick) Berteau Webb; niece Margo Roll-
ing Randall; six grandchildren, Stefan and Celeste' Berteau, Mat-
thew (Rebekah Falkner) & Anna Webb (Cory Buecker) and Kaitlyn
and Christian Berteau.
He is preceded in death by his infant daughter Teresa; Sister
Merrette Rolling; and nephew Earl Rolling, Jr.
Friends were received Friday, May 24, 2013 until the services
began at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula.
