Rookie win lands playoff berth

Ponchatoula's Rookie All-Stars advanced to the championship round
Wednesday July 24 when Ponchatoula won the third consecutive game of the
Loranger Disct finals against Franklinton. Ponchatoula defeated Franklinton 14-13
"It was tough. We really had to fight to win this one. I mean, Franklinton was
determined," commented Ponchatoula coach Tommy Ragan.
Ponchatoula was behind in scoring for three innings, tied it at eight in the fourth
inning, took the lead by one in the fifth, and won by one run in the sixth inning.
"Coach Ragan pushes the kids hard and when they're in a position like they were
tonight they always manage to climb back up," pointed out Margie "Mrs+ Baseball"
Lessar.

The habit caught on. At the top of the second, Franklinton's Chad Crain+ Troy
Wilson and Carl Miller put Ponchatoula back at bat.
For Ponchatoula, Trey Harris struck out while Chris Flannagan and Trey Landry
both were put out on pop ups.
Into the third inning, Franklinton led 2-0.
The third frame appeared to have taken on a different light as both teams scored
|Our runs.
Terry Fortenberry, Steven McKence, Chad Crain and Twenties Magee compiled
the runs for Franklinton.
Ponchatoula's Jefferey Berthelot, Jason McMorris, Ronnie Corbin and Steven
Disher together rallied in scoring. Franklinton led 6-4 by the third inning's end.
Aggressiveness on Honchatoula's part tied the score at the bottom of the fourth
frame Jefferey Berthelot scored on a single. Tommy Ragan roamed the baseline
on a triple, Bobby Wolfe was walked while Ronnie Corbin attributed Ponchatoula's
fourth run of the frame on a double.
Franklinton opened the door and Ponchatoula wasted no time in taking
advantage of it.
Steven Disher was credited with the run that gave Ponchatoula the lead for the
first time in the game. Jefferey Berthelot and Ronnie Corbin both scored on singles
while Jason McMorris was walked.
Runs clinched by Troy Wilson, Chad Crain and Chad Bryant brought
Franklinton from a one run deficit to a two run lead. All three were walked.
But Ponchatoula kept the flame burning. Gene Malone, Trey Harris and Chris
Flannagan scored for Ponchatoula on a walk, a single and a wild pitch.
Ponchatoula won 14-13.
"We couldn't lose after coming this far," stated Ponchatoula pitcher Ronnie
Corbin followinq the win Wednesday. Ronnie pitched an inning and led as both the Ronnie Corbin surpassed his team in scoring with four runs and in hits with two
leading scorer and hitter with four each, two of which were doubles.
Taking the top of the inning, Franklinton sent up Troy Wilson and Nakia Magee doubles and two singles. Jefferey Berthelot supplemented the ending composition
by bnnging home three runs on two singles and a walk.

Steven Disher led in sacrifices with two while Tommy Ragan and Jason McMorris
fo!lowed with one each.
Jason McMorris and Gene Malone were walked twice while Jefferey Berthelot and
Chris Flannagan were walked once each.
At the mound for Ponchatoula. Tommy Ragan, Bobby Wolfe. Trey Harris and
Ronnie Corbin shared the mound to strike out 10 batters and walk 14.
Morehouse didn't want anymore
Tangs geared up against Morehouse's
All-Stars Monday, July 23 and ended
up the victor of a 12- I I game.
Tangs had suffered the loss of the first
game but made sure that 'This one was
in the bag."
"If you lose the first game, you really
can't afford to lose another," explained
local baseball enthusiast Bobby Vitter.
But this win wasn't as easy as they
had expected it to be. field just as fast.
"They were better than we thought,"
said coach Ragan.
Shane Dufrene, Chris Paille and
Chris Carter picked up three runs on a
double and two singles. Tangi had a two
run lead in the bottom of the initial
inning.

second frame and put them back in the

At bat. Tangi's Chris Carter scored his
second run on a walk. Paille rapped out
a double, but Neel and Holland's strike
outs put them back in the field with a
slim one run lead.
Darren Reese, Shawn Hutson and
Lance Vitter increased their lead to five
on two singls and walk. Tangs led 7-2
going into the fourth inning.
At bat, Morehouse poured the coals
to the fire and pulled in two runs as a
result; three short of the tie.
TangS played the fourth without
scoring.
Into the fifth frame, Morehouse
challenged Tangs altogether.
Morehouse picked up on five runs on
two home runs, two walks and a single.
Morehouse led by two runs.

Morehouse made their remarkable
comeback but Tangi pulled home Darryl
Allen, Lance Vitter and Steven Nee] to
score and retain the lead 10-9.
Morehouse had their final opportunity
to triumph over Tangi and came close.
Two added runs increased the More-
house lead to 11-10.
Darryl Allen and Lance Vitter, who
were both walked, scored Tangi's
winning runs.
Tangi overthrew Morehouse 12-1 I.
Lance Vitter led Tangi in scoring with
three runs, Darryl Allen and Chris
Carter followed with two each while
Chris Paille, Darren Reese, Shane
Dufrene, Shawn Hutson and Steven
Neel attributed one each.
In hits, Steven Neel, Chris Paille and
Darren Reese commanded with two
each while Carter, Dufrene, Hutson-
and Vitter added one each.
Steven Neel, Chris Carter and Chris
Paille were also credited with one
double each.
Vitter, Carter and Allen all were
credited with two walks each while
Reese added one.
Sharing the mound for Tangi, Darren
Reese, Brad Roberts and Chris Carter
together walked three batters and struck
out seven.
In all, winners composited 12 runs
taken on ]0 hits in which there were
three doubles, seven walked batters and
10 strike outs.
Tangs advanced further to play
