VUNITA CORKERN Colleen "G.G." Vunita Corkern, 87, of Ponchatoula, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 17, 2013, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Saturday, February 13, 1926, in Honey Grove, Texas, daughter of the late Virgil Whaley and Mabel Tracy Whaley. She loved to travel and going to the beach with her grand- children. She loved to read and loved Southern History. She was involved in the community, volunteering at the Collinswood Museum, St. Joseph Catholic School, and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar Society. She also worked with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. She was a Gold Star Mother and her best time in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
