OCIETY Ponchatoula's Irma Coumes in New Orleans A Ponchatoula native. Mrs. Coumes began her art career nine years ago. She is primarily self-taught, but has attended several workshops including those of Sue Sickles. Robert Rossback, and Isabell Lovell. She is a charter member of the Marl Car An Gallery and of the Ponchatoula Artisans and has also served as a past vice-president of that group. Professionally, her other past memberships include those of the St. Tammany Art Association and the Hammond Art Guild. You are invited to a reception to meet Mrs. Coumes on Friday. Aug. 26 after a summer break. The Scriptual Rosary was recited led by President Merle Kugler and Vice-president Rita Murtagh. Immediately following the rosary, the business meeting was held in the meeting room. President Kugler welcomed all the members, and asked for reports from the recording secretary, Bertha Dominguez, treasurer, Rita Daigle and corresponding secretary, Hy Sellers. Plans were made for our annual Fruit Cake and Jelly Raffle• Special thanks to Mrs. Hilda Ourso and Mrs. Elizabeth Kraft who have generously offered to make the cake and jelly for the raffle• A permit will be obtained from the city for a fee of $I0 to have this annual project in December. A committee of 6 volunteers were asked to meet and report at our next meeting on other ways and means of raising funds for our organization, Correspondence from the local President of the Chamber of Commerce. Jeanne Zaleski were read and discussed• Annette Hagg volunteered to represent our group on the steering committee At a later date the Chamber President asked that we plan some type of activity for the asphalt celebration to commem. orate the completion of the highway. The meeting adjourned with a prayer led by President Kugler. Refreshments were served during the social hour.
