He subsequently graduated from the University of Alabama and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Fannaly spent his profes- sional career with Royal Dutch Shell Oil, first in New York, then a much longer, final tenure in Houston as a proud, active resi- dent of Southampton Place. In the early phases of that career, John participated in the devel- opment and implementation of the initial computerization of Shell. He was preceded in death by his parents John Joseph Fan- naly Jr. and Josephine Yochim Fannaly, and his friend and life companion, Carlos de Cespedes.
