Mental Health Center open
Billie Thorson, Director of the new
Northshore Mental Health Center in
Hammond, welcomed local dignitaries
and other special guests to the clinic's
opening at I007 West Thomas Street in
Magnolia Plaza. The clinic, which offers
a wide variety of counseling and thera-
peutic services, has available to area
citizens comprehensive evaluations,
group therapy, marital counseling, and
crisis intervention, as well as parental
consulation and a full service outpatient
program for the treatment of alcohol
and other chemical dependencies.
Behavior modification and partial
hospitalization services also available.

of America, which is involved in the
operation and development of more
than 50 psychiatric and substance abuse
hospitals in the U.S. & abroad,

Old P.H.S.'s last yearbook on sale
The commemorative edition of the
1985 Ponchatoula High School Green-
back, "The Last Hurrah." will be ready
for distribution next week. according to
Mrs. Kim Howes Zabbia.
The yearbook is a special tribute to
the last year in the old school, and it
covers the long, colorful history of PHS.
Last year's seniors and townspeople
may pick up their books on Sat.. Sept.
28, from II:00 to I:00 in the West
Parking Lot of the New Ponchatoula
High School on Hwy. 22 Extra copies
are available for purchase at this time at
a cost of $20 each.
Townspeople who included the $3
postage fee with their order should
expect to receive their yearbooks in the
mail by Sept. 28.
PHS students will receive their copies
on Man.. Sept. 30 in homeroom.
Anyone wishing to purchase one by
mail should send his name, address,
and $23 to PHS Greenback. H.wy. 22.

Auxiliary hears from youth leaders
Leander J. Kinchen American Legion
Auxiliary Unit 47 met on Thursday.
September 5 with 26 members present.
Before the meeting representatives from
Boy and Girl State came and gave a talk
on their experience in Baton Rouge.
Senior citizens will be served
following their meeting. Those making
cakes are: Claire Palmer. Agnes Tate
and Jennie Tate. Those attending and
helping to serve were Jennie Tate and
Alice McSulain.
Fifty dollars was donated to Perrin
Early Learning Center to help with play-
this time it was decided to have their
monthly meeting on the third Monday
of the month at 3:30 p.m.
Gold Star Mother's Tea will be at the
Hammond Legion Home on Sunday,
Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
The Thanksgiving party at Carville,
La. will be on Sunday, November 24.
Cindy Newton was selected to serve
on the committee for the-Chamber of
Commerce for the City of Ponchatoula.
There will be a garage sale at the
Legion Home in Ponchatoula on Oct.
