'PJH Pirates dominate By DUANE E. HARRIS Sports Editor The Ponchatoula Junior High Pirates took a 10 year dream home with them uesday, September 17 when the i: tes surpassed and defeated Hammond 28-12 in Hammond. In the 10 years that Coach Fred TUcker has coached football for the Junior high, his teams had never defeated Hammond. "At the start of the Season, nobody thought the kids would get anywhere. But we've got a good team this year. The kids work together a unit," commented Tucker on behalf .,...=., of his 1985 junior high team. However, things didn't look too good for the Pirates in the first quarter when Hammond scored two touchdowns in the first four minutes. But the team got fired up when they escaped disaster by scoring. Kevin Pierre lifted their score and cut the deficit when he found running room with only two minutes left in the first half. At halftime, Hammond led 12-8. The third period was filled with the sounds of silence as the defenses planted their feet firmly and held their ground. The B team went on to Win both games over Sacred Heart. The St. Joseph Girls A team consists 0f Monet Byers. Delise Caldwell, $tephanie David, Jan Howes, Bliss M lahon, Leslie Morgan, Hope Palisi, Jennifer Thompson, Sand, Schanzbach, Tamika McGary and ,...,. Kristen Martinez. The B team is manned by Michelle Alexander, Katina Cosgrove. Theresea Daniels, Cindy David. Thasia Ernest, Angela Hernandez, Stacey Pevey. Leslie Schaff, Tracy Watts. Tara Moreland and Kristina Piediscalzo. In the three years St: Joseph has had a girls volleyball team, there has been a winning season. St. Joseph's girls volleyball team was formerly coached by Roxanne Quinn and Barbara Reyes the year before. St. Joseph will play away every Tuesday but will play at home in the St. Joseph School auditorium on Thursdays. ! Beginning at noon, the public is invited to support the Little Conference Association by purchasing a $3 dinner which will include jambalaya, dessert and a cold drink. HARRIS Sports Editor It was "dog eat dog" in Springfield Friday, September 20 when Springfield's snarling Bulldogs took their second victory of the season over Woodland's Bulldogs 26-6. The local Bulldogs rest a 2-1, excluding the Jamboree win. JoJo Davis lit the scoring lights first for Springfield only two minutes into the game. Two turnovers later, Springfield executed a powerful scoring drive that began at the Woodland 49 yard line. Quarterback Bart Kennedy faded back on a long attempt that was clinched by Davis and run in for the touchdown.
