By DUANE E. HARRIS
Sports Editor
The Ponchatoula Junior High Pirates
took a 10 year dream home with them
uesday, September 17 when the
i: tes surpassed and defeated
Hammond 28-12 in Hammond.
In the 10 years that Coach Fred
TUcker has coached football for the
Junior high, his teams had never
defeated Hammond. "At the start of the
Season, nobody thought the kids would
get anywhere. But we've got a good
team this year. The kids work together
a unit," commented Tucker on behalf

of his 1985 junior high team.

for the Pirates in the first quarter when
Hammond scored two touchdowns in
the first four minutes. But the team got
fired up when they escaped disaster by
scoring. Kevin Pierre lifted their score
and cut the deficit when he found
running room with only two minutes left
in the first half. At halftime, Hammond
led 12-8.
The third period was filled with the
sounds of silence as the defenses
planted their feet firmly and held their
ground.
Then it came: the quarter when both
