Defense stressed in little conference duels By DUANE E. HARRIS Sports Editor Aggressive defense was the name of the game Thursday, October 3 in St Joseph Stadium where Little Conference teams Champ Cooper. First Guaranty, Kiwanis and Citizens met head-to-head. In game one, Kiwanis defeated Citizens National Bank 13-6 in a hard- played battle of the bronze. For Kiwanis speed was the key. Hosie Brown scored on a sweep right of five yards and quarterback John Dillon powered up and over on a QB sneak for the score. John Dillon went the distance as quarterback passing 15 yards while he also listed as one of the team's leading rushers. Leading in rushing were Hosie Brown and John Dillon who added their pickup to the team's 62 yard total. In all, Kiwanis compiled 77 yards total offense. Leading the defensive department for Kiwanis was Brad Landry, Trent Brown and John Dillon who registered sacks amounting to 17 yards lost by Citizens. In game two. it was nothing but defense between Champ Cooper and First Guaranty. The game ended 0-0. Chad Sanchez, Henry Mosely and Jeff Delatte led Champ Cooper in rushing while quarterback Jason Drury threw 60 percent. Guaranty was led in rushing by Brett Pinion and Jeff Minzier, while quarter- back Mark Claytor threw 40 percent for Guaranty. According to Ponchatoula derma. tologist Dr. Bob Benson, every grandmother in New Orleans says "gawd help dem Saints." Benson originated the idea and has recently developed the official Saints T,shirt depicting the stylish phrase on the back and picturing in five colors, a Saints scene on the front. The T- shirts will be sold to benefit the Reynolds Institute for homeless children, troubled youth, and uncared for and abused children. The shirt is part of a neat package. For a donation, you can get the official Saints T-shirt and the Saints 45 rpm record commemorating the team's management takeover. Those interested in getting a Saints shirt can drop by Dr. Benson's Dermatology Clinic located on Hwy. 51 North• two blocks from Seventh Ward Hospital or by calling Dr. Benson at 542-6400. HARRIS Times Reporter After going to the Tangipahoa Parish Fair held in Amite, do you feel that the fair generated its fair share of Tangi tourism? Byron Little."l would have to say yes, it did. The fair had some- thing for everyone and it seemed that quite a few people showed up for the fair." Carla Kinchen-"For Amite I think it did. For neighboring towns I don't think it did anything as far as bringing money into the community is concerned." Ray Golden-"Oh yeah, definitely. Driving to the fair, 1 saw license plates on cars approaching the grounds from all over the country which means that, people came, and that's tour lsm.' Pat Burns- People are going to country fairs and such these days and I think that any fair in the area helps towns. I didn't go, but [ think it's a great thing and people need to get away and go to things like that. So it helps everyone." Jimmy Rome-"l know that a lot of the quick stops took in the business with open arms. Places that normally aren't crowded were just flooded with customers over the weekend and well, that's got to be because of the fair. I'm not talking about Hammond either, just Ponchatoula." Craig Granger-'There were too many people there! It took longer for us to drive through Amite to reach the grounds than it did for us to drive to Amite from Ponchatoula. But it was great and l think it had an effect on Ponchatoula people." Evelyn Cyoch-"There was an increase in business here. More people came to look at the fair surroundings than I had expected. 1 can say that the fair was a success in keeping the tourists coming. All we need to do is to keep them coming. Joseph Wagner-"The fair brought me here and 1 live in Mississippi! Yeah, 1 wanted to meet that old Cajun, Justin Wilson. He was something else! But the family and I enjoyed the fair and we'll be back next year." THE PONCHATOULA TIMES, OCTOBER 10. 1985, PAGE 1985 D.C. Reeres Little Devilettes The 1985 D.C. Reeves Little McLin.
