THE TIMES, NOVEMBER 21, 2013, PAGE 2 -- Like us at Facebook.com/theponchatoulatimes S orts John Dudek Saints Alivet By JOHN DUDEK Times Columnist After ten games, I predicted before the season, the New Or- leans Saints would have a re- cord of 8-2. After this past Sun- day's 23-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, the Saints im- proved their record to 8-2. A lot of their success hinged on how the team would respond with a new defensive coordina- tor, and getting their head coach back. Well, let's just say they have bounced back rather nicely. For the second straight week, the much maligned defense held the opposition to under team was a gust of fresh air for Saints fans. With ten games in the books, the Saints have control of their own destiny. They are just one game behind the Seahawks for the top spot in the NFC. And they get a chance to make that game up when they play Seat- tle on December 2, on Monday Night Football. The only other challengers for the Saints, are the Caro- lina Panthers. Carolina is en- trenched in second place in the division, and boasts one of the top defenses in football. To me though, the season's most im- portant game will be that Sea- hawks game. Next up for the Saints is a Thursday Night Football game against the lowly Atlanta Fal- cons. The Falcons have been argu- ably the league's most disap- pointing team. Even with that said, it always seems to be a slug lest when these two get to- gether. I expect it to be a closer game than it should be, but with the Saints ultimately emerging victorious. Prediction: New Orleans 27, Atlanta 17. 200 yards of total offense. Drew Brees was, well, Drew Brees. Please Notify Coach Sean Payton's mere Us Of Changes presence has been a huge boost for the entire team. While the You Wish Made defense couldn't be any worse In our Birthday than it was last year, one could argue that it has been the most and Anniversary improved unit in the league. Greetings After losing stalwarts like Will Smith and Jonathan Vilma 985/386-2877 early on to injury, the outlook cditor@ponchatoula.com was grim.
