AM, i ions 5tar. [ nd i ttur- artin cha- ers. :ns. ten, ndi Football, baseball, soccer leaders to coordinate seasons ,,it ,, / I'/ If the commissioners of the three major local athletic organizations have their own way, youths in South Tangi- pahoa parish will be able to participate in more than one sport at the same time without having to worry about conflicting schedules. For the past two weeks, Ronnie Gregoire of the South Tangipahoa Youth Soccer Association Inc.. Steve Waguespack of the Little Conference Football League, and AI Courouleau of the Dixie Youth Baseball League have been trying to get together to formulate a system whereby the schedules of their respective sports would not conflict. Thus, affording young athletes the opportunity to compete in any, or all. without fear of overlapping commitments to the sports in which they participate. '"e've talked about tlis-quite S " " ' erlous]y m recent weeks, stated Gregoire recently, "but due to our own personal commitments, we haven't had an opportunity to get together in the past couple of weeks to iron out all of the details." If such a coup can be accomplished, it would give parents leeway between the seasons to prepare their children for the following season. It would also allow for non-contlicting registrations in each sport. "As a father of three active children competing in each of these sports. I can fully understand the problems which parents and their children encounter." said Gregoire. "I alo know how expensive it can be to outfit children for each sport, and the difficulty of trying to be in two or three places at the same time. It's impossible!" It won't be an easy task which faces the three commissioners. If, however, it can be successfully accomplished, it could prove to be the shot in the arm which would boost enrollment in all three sports. Gregoire expects a larger enrollment in soccer in the 1986 spring session, and the other two organizations could expect the same if children are free to participate in unconflicting schedules. If there would be any one major conflict in the proposed scheduling of seasons in amateur youth athletics in the parish, it would come only from players participating in state champion- ships in their respective sports. This, however, would likely be minimal since post-season play would involve a minimum, rather than maximum, amount of players. We'll send you your first Christmas cards.
