In Memory
Of My Mother
By CONNIE LITrLE DAVIS
With work worn hands she soothed me.
If my soul began to bleed.
Without a word passing my lips.
She could sense my every need-
In all the sixty nine years,
that on earth she did live-
There was never one wrong done to her.
that she did not forgive-
She would share in my happiness
She would hold me and kiss away my pain-
When a burden seemed too heavy for me to bear
she picked it up and made it lighter
Time and Time again-
She always tried to protect me,
to keep me safe from harm-
With her back against the wind,
she helped me weather every storm-
If sometimes my steps did falter, and
l fell far behind the rest-
She would just tell me it didn't matter.
as long as I tried my very best-
If she ever heard me lash out with anger,
I got a gentle reprimand-
She would softly say, you know, God holds
us all, In The psalm of his hand-
And I guess if she told me once.
I guess she told me twice-
never let the sun set on your anger,
all you have to do, so just be nice-
Her heart was as big as mountains,
She really gave so much-
not only to her children, but to
every other soul she touched-
I thought about great leaders that had
walked the earth, and there was not another-
who was greater or dearer to me.
Than my own dear mother-
I Love You Mother-
Faded Glory
By INEZ BRINKLEY
Plaster peeling off the walls
Speaking tales of woe
Hard times come to devastate
Good times seem to go
Windows broken, staircase missing
Shutters lean awray
A broken home is sad to see
It has so much to say.
Once tall and stately, it's past does tell
Of balls and courtship here
Dashing men on horses came
But one was very dear.
Then gray and blue a clash did meet-
The country split in two
My heart beats for the gentle gray
But God must favor the blue.
They pillage and despoil the land
Their cannons sputter and roar
And soon I get the news I dread..
My dear one is no more.
So now I walk the empty halls
Frail ghost of splendor past
Haunted by the backside of time
Grieving till the last.
Then faded glory no more I'll see
On gold my feet will trod
For soon I'll see his precious face..
Standing near the throne of God.

Simpson on banking
Gentlemen:
First Guaranty Bank in Hammond
publicly announced that it has fired
15% of its employees and announced a
freeze of all pay raises to all personnel in
1986. The reason given was the general
poor economic conditions in Tangipahoa
Parish.
The actual reason for the firings and
the freeze took place three or four years
ago when a group of stockholders of
First Guaranty Bank successfully took
over the bank, fired the chief admini-
strative officers, demoralized employee
morale, and turned a profit-making
bank into the present day condition of
the bank.
All over the United States. corporate
takeovers of other corporations and
stockholder fights have resulted in
instant wealth for some people, but the
end result has been the firing of
employees and it is the employees who
ultimately suffer.
Sincerely yours,
Joseph H. Simpson
