Without discussion: the Ponchatoula
City Council voted to discontinue
paying the first $50 of three service
club's monthly utility bills.
The Rotary Club. Jaycees. and the
Community Garden Club will now have
to pay their entire bill.
The council decided to discontin
the service, after Council-ai-large Julian
Dufreche proposed the change of
council's regular monthly meeting Thurs-
day night•
Dufreche said. "The city used to pay
the first $50 of the Kiwanis Club's utility
bill until two years ago when that

K. Charbonnet, daughter of Earl J. and
Edith P. Charbonnet of Ponchatoula,
La., has graduated from the U.S. Air
Force administrative specialist course at
Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.
Graduates of the six-week course
learned how to prepare Air Force cor-
respondence and reports, and earned
credits toward an associate degree in
applied science thiough the Community
College of the Air Force.
Charbonnet is scheduled to serve
with the 236th Combat Information
Systems Squadron in Hammond, La.
She is a 1985 graduate of Poncha-
toula Hiah School.

Dufreche announced the city has
received permits from Louisiana Power
and Light Co. that residents will have to
get before the electricity can be turned
on.
The permit will cost five dollars. City
Hall will start issuing permits Monday.
A permit will not be issued unless city
has a record of the applicant's paying
deposits on water, sewerage and
garbage pick up.
Jeanne Zaleski. Chamber of
Commerce President. presented the
council with a $75 check from the
Ponchatoula Junior High School for the
new alligator cage.
The Chamber is now going into its
third year of fund raising to build the
new, more humane, cage.
